Asarum europaeum

(European wild ginger)
Asarum europaeum
  • Sorry-no-picture
This tough, ground-covering plant forms an attractive carpet of round, shiny leaves that spring from fragrant, inedible roots - hence the common name ginger. Hidden just below the leaves nestle small purplish red flowers. One for the woodland or very shady garden.
