Astrantia major 'Gill Richardson'
(Masterwort)
A lovely Astrantia with large, dark red flowers, the bracts are tinged at the end very, very dark red and the mid-green leaves are tinged with dark red as they emerge. Seed grown, therefore somewhat variable. Seedlings can also be very dark. Pull out any green leaved ones.

Hardy to -10 degrees or more. A hardy perennial this dies back in autumn and re emerges again in spring. Cut back the old foliage before new leaves start to grow in spring. All Astrantias can take a little time to establish, but once established they are very easy to grow in most soils. To prevent seedlings from appearing (they do not seed true) remove the flower heads as they finish.
