Astrantia maxima

(Masterwort)

Large dusky pink flowers with mid-green leaves that are unlike Astrantia major types because they have three points. The last astrantia to flower and the slowest to get going. Never-the-less lovely.

Hardy to -10 degrees or more. A hardy perennial this dies back in autumn and re emerges again in spring. Cut back the old foliage before new leaves start to grow in spring. All Astrantias can take a little time to establish, but once established they are very easy to grow in most soils. To prevent seedlings from appearing (they do not seed true) remove the flower heads as they finish.
