Cornus alba 'Kessekringii'
(Black stemmed dogwood)
A handsome shrub that in winter displays lots of straight, black-purple stems. In spring these produce bronze-tinted leaves that pass to mid-green in summer, and eventually to red in autumn. In late spring clusters of little white flowers appear, followed by white berries. Can be kept a lot shorter by seasonal pruning, but if you prune each year flowers and berries are less likely to appear.
