Helen Ballard, after whom this strain of Helleborus is named, spent many years raising Hellebores. The daughter-in-law to a famous breeder of Asters, her Hellebores broke the breeding ground. The flowers were large and were white, red and near black. Many were speckled with red. Many years ago my father (David) bought a range from her, and I still have one in the garden. This is the one on the picture. The flowers, which will vary by plant, open in clusters clusters above lovely, thick, waxy evergreen leaves that grow into a dense mound. These are well-worth investing in.
