A trumpet-shaped bloom, the petals can look black in shady spots, in sun they are very dark red and beautifully shiny, rather like velvet. The deep centre of rich lemon extends into very thin stripes up the petals. A lovely variety, the blooms are borne above a mound of long, slender, mid-green leaves.
The leaves of this very hardy perennial die back in autumn and rise again in spring. Hardy to colder than -10 and very easy to grow, it will take a year or two to establish, but once happy this requires little maintenance.
