Hesperantha coccinea 'Mrs Hegarty'

(Crimson flag lily)

Tall, stiff stems carry beautiful cupped flowers with six pointed petals that open one or two at a time for many weeks. At the base is a clump of tall, sword-like leaves. Originating from South Africa this once had an offensive common name. Also this is one of the very few plants that botanists have reclassified under a pronounceable title! They can still be found under the name of Schizostylis.
