The magenta-purple flowers have triangular-shaped yellow signals on the velvety falls. The blooms are carried on black stems above mid-green leaves that are deep beetroot red during the spring, a colour that remains throughout the year at the leaf base. It is a cross between I. virginica and I.versicolor. Blooms in June and July.
