Monarda 'Mahogany'
(Bergamot)
The raspberry red (perhaps more purple than pink) flowers are tubular shaped and have long hooked upper petals. These are borne in rings up strong stems. Each ring has a pair of rich green, scented leaves beneath it. Great for wild-life in a damp spot.

Upright plant
Hardy to -10 degrees and much more, the foliage dies back in autumn and emerges again in spring. Cut back the old stems before the new leaves start to grow. Like many Monardas this does best in a soil that does not dry out. In warm, moist summers - which in the case of the UK is most of the time - the leaves may be covered in mildew. This will not harm the plant, but can look unsightly.
