Peony 'Joanna Marlene'

Peony 'Joanna Marlene'
  • Peony-joan-marlene
This chameleon-like flower opens a similar colour to ‘Julia Rose’. Loose layers of petals that are scooped, like the bowl of a spoon, are paler along the edges and backs. As the bloom ages, the pink tints disappear on the inner petals, leaving a wash of pink on the outer layer. Pointed red flares form a star around a wide, wispy ring of stamens and cream-tipped, soft-green carpels. The blooms open just proud of the slender, mid-green foliage.

Care advice

They require a sunny or partial shade in well-drained soil. Plant Intersectional peonies so that the roots are covered up to where the branching begins. Do not mix manure in the soil before planting as this may rot the eyes. This is an intersectional peony, which is a cross between a woody-stemmed tree peony and an herbaceous peony that dies back in autumn. The woody growth can be cut back during the winter.
