Peony 'Soft Salmon Saucer'

Paeonia 'Soft Salmon Saucer'

The soft pink blooms are at their loveliest when they first open into a small goblet. At the base of each each inward-curved petal is a flush of deep pink. Soft- yellow stamens create a thick fluffy ring around the lipstick pink-tipped, soft-green carpels. With age the thick petals unfold into a flat saucer and the tops fade nearly to white, leaving the bottom half of each petal pink. Borne on stiff stems, the leaves are bright green.

They require a sunny or partial shade in well-drained soil. Plant Intersectional peonies so that the roots are covered up to where the branching begins. Do not mix manure in the soil before planting as this may rot the eyes. This is an intersectional peony, which is a cross between a woody-stemmed tree peony and an herbaceous peony that dies back in autumn. The woody growth can be cut back during the winter.
