Salvia glutinosa

(Jupiter's distaff)

Not all plants need to be 'in your face' types. This handsome plant is rather retiring, but I use it as a filler for big borders to provide a soft backdrop for more colourful plants such as phloxes. Rather rough looking this has handsome soft green, heart-shaped leaves from which short stems with large, buff-yellow flowers striped with red appear. Easy and reliable.
