Succisa pratensis
(Devil's-bit Scabious)
The small, lilac, hump backed flowers, which look rather like a sweet from a bag of 'Licorice Allsorts', are carried in profusion on slender, well-branched stems. At the base sits a flat rosette of long, oval mid-green leaves. A plant that creates a lovely see-through effect.

Hardy to -10 degrees and more, the foliage dies back in autumn and emerges again in spring. Cut back any old foliage before new shoots start. Liable to seed around but as this is quite a delicate, see-through plant this does not cause any problems.
