Verbena officinalis var. grandiflora 'Bampton'

(Vervain)

An unusual plant that is more leaf than flower. The tops of the deep green leaves become heavily tainted with purple. Thin and notched along the edges the leaves are borne sparsely up maroon-purple stems. Towards the end of the stems tiny, lilac-pink flowers appear, a few at a time over a long period. The whole effect is a handsome dark twiggy plant that is useful for pots or dry areas. Not entirely hardy but extremely decorative
