Veronicastrum virginicum 'Apollo'
(Culver's root)
Long, tapering spikes of tiny, lavender flowers create a graceful plant. Further spires sit in whorls below the central one, continuing half way down the sturdy stem. Below each spike is a long, pointed, mid-green leaf. A wonderful plant for providing focal point or for the back of a border.

Upright plant
Hardy to -10 degrees and more, the foliage dies back in autumn and grows again in spring. Cut the old tops back before the new stems emerge. May take a year or two to fill out, but when they have these are easy to grow and don't require dividing often. Better in a deep, rich soil that does not dry out.
