The usefulness of these late-flowering plants cannot be overstated. The choice of asters is large, all produce sprays of daisy-like flowers that will brighten up the dullest of autumn days. The most colourful are the true Michaelmas daisies (A. novi-belgii), which some might consider a little too bright. Others are less showy and bloom only in shades of lilac and white.
